Nightmares
An Introduction to Nightmares

A term that we often hear from people when discussing and working with dreams is the term nightmares. What is a nightmare? Well, simply stated a nightmare is a dream that is characterized by a sense of extreme uneasiness or discomfort from which one wakes feeling fearful and in a troubled state of mind.

I think most of us have had a nightmare at some point in our life, they are actually a very real part of dreaming and unless you are having reoccurring nightmares, which at that point may be signs of a more serious nature, you should consult your doctor.

Nightmares are a subcategory of dreams. The distinction of a nightmare is its frightening and/or emotional content. During a nightmare, you tend to wake up in fear in the middle of its occurrence. Because of its frightening and anxious nature, you tend to remember your nightmares and the vivid details. They have a bigger impact upon your waking mind and its images stay with you throughout the day.

After looking into and discussing many nightmares, I have come to the conclusion that many nightmares are a way of our unconscious minds to get our attention about a situation or problem that you have been avoiding or just not seeing letting you know it is time to take notice and confront a problem or situation. Nightmares serve an important purpose in showing you what is troubling you from within you deeper levels. Discussing, analyzing, and understanding your nightmares can lead to a solution for some problem, internal conflict or personal difficulty.
