Tips for Dealing with Sleep Paralysis
Sleep paralysis has been linked to individuals who suffer from narcolepsy, which is a neurological condition in which the person has uncontrollable naps. However, there are many people who experience sleep paralysis without having signs of narcolepsy. I haven’t come across any real explanation why some people experience this paralysis.
There are some things that you can do to reduce the occurrence of episode of sleep paralysis:
Getting enough sleep
Try and set a regular sleep schedule
Reduce stress
Eat a healthy diet
Exercise regularly (not too close to the time you are going to sleep)
Avoid sleeping in the supine position
Being aware of what sleep paralysis is makes you less likely to suffer from extreme fear and anxiety, therefore you may be able to talk yourself through and episode by mentally instructing your body to move and possibly discovering a way for you to talk yourself out of it completely.
As with any problem that persists over a period of time and is causing you distress, consult a medical professional.
